Details

PCGS Designation: 9873

Certificate: 02174824

Grade: MS63

Obverse Die: Doubled 925

Reverse Die: Doubled F DO, Die Gouge in TO

Stars: 13/33

Notes:  This coin exhibits some of the double die features we see in minor die doubling varieties, but on the reverse they are in an advanced stage.  The reverse die is exhibiting die cracks in many places in the lower half of the coin that we do not see on others.  The die cracks on the eagle's head and left wing are frequently seen.

To help differentiate this reverse die from others we identified a die gouge that runs through the TO in the memorial.  There is a connection between the T in TO and the N in the legend.  But we are learning that this is a common feature on all coins.

On the obverse there is a die crack just starting to appear from the second star down through Lee's hat brim.  This is not the same die crack that we see on the FS-101 double die coin.  There is some minor date doubling on the 925 with the 2 doubled at the bottom and the 5 doubled on the lower surface.
