PCGS Designation: 9873

Grade: MS65

Obverse Die: Normal Die

Reverse Die: Normal Die

Stars: 13/32

Notes: This is an interesting coin and the grade seems about right.  The obverse die has been harshly polished and there significant numbers of polish lines in the field in almost a crosshatched pattern.  There is a slight doubling of the lettering in the date and some very minor die cracks above the horses' heads and in front of Lee's hat.  But they are just beginning to show and so minor we feel they are not list-able.

The reverse also shows some harsh polish lines but has other features that would point to this being an early use of this die.  The lettering at the rims is full and only showing signs of bulging on a few of the letters in the denomination.  There is also evidence of the die beginning to fail in the word LIBERTY and this gives that lettering a doubling appearance.

There are some minor die cracks on the eagle's left wing in the usual places.
