Commemorative Half Dollar

21331509

Details

PCGS Designation: 9873

Certificate: 21331509

Grade: MS67

Obverse Die: Normal Die

Reverse Die:  Double F DO and Memorial

Stars: 13/32

Notes:  The toning on this coin is at this point a bit of a mystery, and it shows up on a number of coins at various grades.  The obverse has an opalescence to it that is unusual.  Additionally this coin has a really distracting dark spot right under Lee's chin that appears to be some form of foreign matter on the coin.  Otherwise the obverse is unremarkable with no die cracks or doubling.

The reverse is a different story.  There are the familiar die cracks on the eagle's left wing and some die doubling.  The F DO in the denomination are doubled toward the inside top edge.  The memorial phrase is also doubled toward the right side on all four rows.

While the strike is good, the eye appeal is bad and we are not sure this one earned the MS67 grade.
