Stone Mountain
Commemorative Half Dollar

33974481

Details

PCGS Designation: 9873

Certificate: 33974481

Grade: AU50

Obverse Die: Normal Die

Reverse Die: Normal Die

Stars: 13/35

Notes:  Earlier in its life this was a well struck coin with the reverse particularly strong.  All 35 stars are visible to some degree and this is unusual at any grade.

There is flattening on all the high surfaces, but Jackson's and Lee's coats retain good detail, as does Jackson's face.  All lettering on both sides is still intact and strong.

Another indicator of an early die usage is that the letter flattening from a bulging die is not present, or  very minor.  There is a little die cracking on the reverse at the field level above and about mid-point on the eagle's left wing.  This is a familiar pattern but is worn away on the high points of the wing and head.
