Stone Mountain
Commemorative Half Dollar

35067635

Details

PCGS Designation: V9873

Certificate: 35067635

Grade: MS64

Obverse Die: Doubled 925 and Little Sorrel

Reverse Die: Normal Die

Stars: 13/31

Notes:  The obverse of this coin carries the day as to the grade.  There is good detail and even some color that adds a little eye appeal.  There is date doubling and doubling on the face of Little Sorrel.  But the coin lacks the doubling in STONE MOUNTAIN that the major variety has as a major feature.

On the obverse there is also good detail in areas like the bridle where it crosses the holster.  But Lee's leg is a little flat indicating that this is perhaps less than a complete strike.  There is an unusual series of dashes along the top edge that appear to us to be reeding impressions, perhaps from a loose die collar.

Saying that we can see 31 reverse stars on this coin is being a little generous and we might say we can see impressions of 31 stars more accurately.  The reverse of this coin is not well struck with many details left as somewhat muted.  There are several reverse die cracks that have become familiar from other coins.
