Commemorative Half Dollar
PCGS Designation: V9873
Obverse Die: Doubled Die Obverse (FS-101)
Reverse Die: Doubled HALF DOLL, Doubled Star
Notes: We believe this coin needs addition evaluation because the obverse die has all or enough of the requisite features to be the major DDO variety. It has a full doubled date, a doubled STONE MOUNTAIN, and the face of Little Sorrel has the thin line doubling at the front. There is also the familiar heavy polish line under Jackson's arm. This coin seems to be so early in the use of the double die obverse that there are no die cracks, or none heavy enough to be of note.
The reverse has some minor doubling, but interesting none the less. The letters HALF DOLL are doubled at the bottom on the surface and the star between is doubled or tripled.
We have no argument with the overall grade and think there is sufficient detail to be a good but not great obverse strike. The reverse strike is somewhat better and there are 31 visible stars.
