Stone Mountain
Commemorative Half Dollar

35067640

Details

PCGS Designation: V9873

Certificate: 35067640

Grade: MS63

Obverse Die: Doubled Date and Little Sorrel

Reverse Die: Doubled F DO and Memorial

Stars: 13/30

Notes:  This is a really interesting coin that shows many of the traits of the major obverse double die, but adds the reverse double die features.  On the obverse die all of the date digits are doubled, but not offset as far as normal.  There is no doubling on the bottom of MOUNTAIN.  However the face of Little Sorrel is doubled (perhaps tripled), a feature that often accompanies the major variety.

The reverse doubling is on the inside top of F DO and a portion of the memorial phrase.  We have no problems with the grade since we don't believe this is a well struck coin and lack some detail we like to see at higher grades.

There is a series of reverse die cracks along the wing top and across the eagle's head that are becoming familiar.
